When we hear the word ‘Tree,’ we think of fire. And, even if the word ‘Christmas’ is added, we keep our heads wrapped around the idea of flames…
This is because we are shocked by the dramatic images of large burning forests which are imposing themselves over any other kinder depiction of nature we may try to invoke.
And, as it occurs with everything that affects us, we have been thinking about a way to bring this concern over to our light-based work in order to display it visually without losing any of its alarming message.
The idea is to build a large eye-catching tree of fire (no one can keep their eyes off the fire) that should finally work as a giant warning sign.
“The Tree that Burns Without Burning” is the name of this piece, and it has two versions. The first one, which looks like a real tree, with a trunk from which branches sprout out where we would replace the leaves for led lights that are intended to mimic the visual effect of a moving flame. These lamps are becoming more common at lighting stores.
The second version borrows the shape of typical conical-shaped Christmas trees which fill squares with light this time of year. We would build it from a central trunk supporting a structure of concentric circumferences to which these flaming bulbs would be fastened.
We are positive that this effect would be impressive and would instill, at least, certain uneasiness in the observers.
We hope to make it happen soon. For now, we will just add it to our would-be projects portfolio.
